T-Ball....or herding Cats (A Mommy Blog)

Soooo, Hubby & I thought that it might be a good idea to sign the boy up for some kind of organized sport. Last month, our local Parks & Recreation Department held sign-ups for Lil' Rookies T-Ball.
Sounded like a good idea. We paid our $$$$, bought a bat, balls, borrowed a glove & got ready for what we thought would be a good start to our little man's sporting career.
Friday was our 1st game.
It was also picture day.
Let me back up & say that our team is made up of
6 boys (three 3 year-olds & three 4 year-olds)
and 6 girls (three 3 year-olds & three 4 year-olds)
Sounds innocent enough, right?

Here's G-man & his Daddy giving Dad a little bicep workout while we were waiting.

"That all you got, DAD?!"

It was finally our team's turn for individual pics.
By this point, 3 of our 12 team members were having a meltdown.
I'm proud to say that mine was NOT one of them.
(I'm not judging & the night was young)

After pics, we headed up to the ballfield or as my G-man calls it:
"That place with dirt & the green carpet"

The National Anthem was played...

and they introduced our team.

Here's the little man, running out to the lineup.
We were so proud.
Hearing his name called for the first of what I can only imagine will be a gazillion times over the next 12-14 years was pretty cool.

It was his turn on deck.
You see that serious game face?

Oh wait, that lasted for about 5 seconds.
(See our Dugout Mom? She has the patience of Job.
There is a special place in heaven for Dugout Moms!)

Ok, it's his turn.

He swings & HITS!

RUN to 1st base, SON!

Good Job!
I'm sure he's whispering:
"Now, when that little girl hits that ball, you run fast to 2nd base!"
What he doesn't know is that GMan has NO clue where 2nd base is...

Oh, wait, YES HE DOES!

Ok, he made it to 3rd. YES!

This is where he stopped to have a chat with Coach Randy.
Randy talks to G-Man a lot.
I think they're discussing life & stuff.
When G-Man isn't going where he's supposed to be in practice,
Coach picks him up & carries him.
G-Man weighs in at 49 pounds.
I'll be paying for Randy's hernia repair in the next few years.
I'm sorry, coach Randy.

Ok, I can finally go home!
Touch the base, dear.
Really. Touch it.
Here, Coach Steve will move the T so you can see it.
Touch it.
With your foot.
Seriously.

Sigh.
Ok, we got through our batter line-up.
It's our turn in the outfield.
G-Man was manning 2nd base.
See how attentive he is?

This is Coach Stormy.
Also a place in heaven.
Ever heard the term "Herding Cats"?
Yep, just call her the Cat Whisper-er.
She rounds them back in when their attention has wandered.

Ok, I think we have him focused again.

Here comes the ball!

And another one...

And another one!

Ok, I've got this one!

Ok, I guess I can focus when those balls are coming right at me.

Got it!

YES!

OK, so they moved me away from the action...

to 2nd base again.
I was kind of sleepy, so I thought I'd lay down on the base
and have a quick nap.

We finally encouraged him to stand up & look alive.

What's that, you say?

I have a giant booger on my finger?
I'm NOT supposed to pick my nose while manning 2nd base?
Yep, he was 2 knuckles deep in front of God & everyone.
Really?

That's our boy. We are so proud.

The game finally wrapped up after everyone batted twice.
Here they are lined up for the high-five line.

I've never laughed so much at a sporting event.
And to think, there's 8 games to go.

Lord knows what's in store for us.

Until next time...

"Hoppy" Easter!

Well, when I woke up this morning, Daddy told me some Easter Bunny snuck into our home last night & left some cool stuff for me. I thought the Fat Man in the Red suit had this market cornered, but hey, who am I to argue?

Later this morning, we headed over to my Nana & PaPa's farm.
There was a ton of yummy food.
I ate my body weight in ham.
Ham is good. Pork chops are good. Bacon is good.

The fuzzy man made a stop by here too.
He brought eggs.
Stuffed with candy.

Stuffed with chocolate!
Wanna see?

Big thanks to my cousin, A for helping with the high spots!

 Here's my Great Granny!

And my cousin, SeaChel
(real names have been changed to protect the innocent)

 Here's my cousin, A!

Lots of family, food & fun today!

It was my Great Uncle D's birthday too!
My Mama made him this cake to celebrate.

We got home and were all super tired, so we snuggled in for an afternoon nap.
Daddy snapped this shot after we woke up.

We had a great Easter.
Until next time...
